Irregular migration flows within Latin America: the colombian case

Abstract

Colombia has not been a recipient of a large number of migrants; on the contrary, it has tended more to be a transmitter of migrants given its internal conflict. What has been evident in recent years is a change in this situation, Colombia is a country of passage for hundreds of people seeking to reach from different parts of the world to North America. Due to this situation, the country does not have an immigration policy that allows it to deal with the large number of people who enter daily, leaving in evidence the tensions that are generated around the rights granted to Colombians and those not born in Colombia. Thus, the question that guides this work is how the media have represented immigrants who arrive in Colombia irregularly, during the period corresponding to the government of Juan Manuel Santos (2010 - 2017). For this a press review of the main newspapers of the country has been carried out -El País, El Espectador and El Tiempo-, with the purpose of identifying the language used in these and the ways in which it is narrated the action of the State to the citizens.
