Abstract

This article aims to describe the role of individual characteristics in work-life enrichment, by conducting a systematic review of empirical articles published in high-impact journals. The results show that personal states and cognitions remain the most widely studied characteristics, while very little research examines the effects of personal skills on enrichment. Additionally, most studies are focused on work-family enrichment, though an increasing number of scholars consider other non-work domains, such as school, entrepreneurship, among others. Finally, there is a high concentration of studies in Europe, the United States, and Asia, and a limited development of the field in Latin America.
