Abstract

Work and leisure are different activities, but both are important for life. This study analyzed the effect of work-leisure conflict on performance, mediated by perceived stress and job satisfaction. Differences between millennials and centennials were investigated, and a cross-sectional, non-probabilistic, quantitative design was conducted among professionals in the Mexican maquiladora industry. It was found that time-based work-leisure conflict has an effect on tension-based conflict, both of which affect perceived stress. This stress decreases job satisfaction, which in turn favors task performance through the mediation of contextual performance. Differences were identified between millennials and centennials in the relationship between the types of work-leisure conflict.
