Abstract

Although it is a relatively new concept, the literature on responsible leadership has gained prominence. Some systematic reviews have been published but none have focused on analyzing the Latin American context or tried to establish the role that it can play in the emergence of this phenomenon. This article reviewed the research on responsible leadership in Latin America and established two specific roles: On the one hand, the context can act as a pushing force, promoting the moral development of a responsible leader; on the other hand, the context can act as a pulling force that demands the emergence of responsible leaders. This research lays the foundations for research on responsible leadership in Latin America and highlights the importance of the context in its appearance, particularly in developing economies.
