Objective
Training highly qualified Nephrologists, with the highest human, ethical, and scientific qualities. Following the pedagogical model at University Icesi, and with the Fundación Valle del Lili Foundation, the nephrology program seeks to train autonomous specialists, able to learn for themselves, analyze, and synthesize, with critical thought and that are otherwise able to formulate and develop research projects.
Methodology
The methodology is attendance-based in a specialization program for Nephrology, which incorporates solid forms of academic activity and internship organization, such as: readings, outpatient consultation (outpatient patient care), hospitalization (inpatient patient care), clinic case discussions, inter-clinical consultation on nephrology with planning and execution of activities in service review (professor-assistance), mortality and complication meetings, clinic cases, journals clubs, supervised internships, review and follow-up of research projects, conferences, seminars, and optional credits for in-depth material. All of these activities shall link actively and engagingly students and guarantee the quality of their training.
Comprises a theoretical component as well as a practical one, the theoretical component is developed with an active learning, self-directed methodology based on issues, in which residents prepare topics planned ahead of time and discuss the cases assessed in different areas of practical training; likewise, questions are reviewed during seminars, and readings conducted as well as cases presented are discussed.
The practical component comprises the completion of activities for patient care in outpatient clinic services, hospitalization, intensive care unit, and urgent intervention of preventive and promotion nature.
