The Master’s program covers four semesters. It includes 600 hours of direct contact with the professor, divided between the common curriculum and the focus area chosen by the student. It consists of 55 academic credits.
The program has three components. The first is the common curriculum, the material from which is covered over two semesters. The purpose of the common curriculum is to provide the theoretical, methodological, hermeneutic and argumentative tools that ensure a contextualized understanding of contemporary law, and also qualify students to carry out socially- and ethically-responsible work. The master’s thesis course represents the research training component of the program; it lasts for the duration of the program and includes classroom hours and other office hours with the students’ academic advisor. The student is expected to apply the knowledge they have acquired and use their legal comprehension and problem-solving skills to develop their thesis, as well as their skills of writing logical and well-argued texts, and more. Alternatively, and instead of the master’s thesis, the student may choose to pursue an unpaid internship at one of the university's centers. For concentrations in judicial law, procedural law, public law, criminal law and labor and social security law, students can work at Universidad Icesi's Law Group for the Public Interest (GAPI). For concentrations in business law, commercial law, and tax law, the program has a collaborative relationship with Universidad Icesi's Center for the Development of the Entrepreneurial Spirit (CDEE), where the students can advise the SMEs that work with the center's Departamento PROPyME (SME Department).
The second component also lasts two semesters and includes the courses specific to the specialization chosen by the student. The third component is represented by the elective materials that the student may freely choose to delve deeper into specific topics and areas of academic interest.
University Icesi awards the degree Master of Law to those who satisfactorily complete all program credits. SNIES No. 90919. Official registration: National Ministry of Education Resolution No. 10411 November 26, 2010.

This concentration fosters an interdisciplinary debate that examines the concrete epistemological presuppositions of judicial practice. As a result, the program understands judicial theory as the explanatory vocabulary that judges and other judicial officers use in a specific and set way for justify their practices and choices, rather than as a platform of abstract, systematic and recurring problems.
This concentration provides students with the solid theoretical tools to understand the legal process as a guarantee and not as a mere means to an end.
This concentration addresses: the study of the State, the Political Constitution in its sources and principal contemporary issues; the make up and operations of public administration and its relationship to persons residing on Colombian soil. It also deals with the main tools, institutions, and arguments offered by administrative law to comply with the purposes of the State in the Constitution; and it addresses basic themes of international law to delve deeper into questions of international protection of rights.
The purpose of this concentration is to train interdisciplinary students with vast knowledge of the legal system in which criminal law is only an expression of the diverse realities that occur within it, with special attention to criminal theory and criminal dogma.
Students in this specialization study the most relevant elements of different areas of law (civil, commercial, labor, tax, and procedural) that are related to the legal regulation of businesses.
The purpose of the concentration in commercial law is to delve deeper into its main themes, such as contract law, corporate law, bankruptcy, damages and insurance theory, free zones and international corporations, intellectual property, and more.
The scope of tax issues calls for critical reflection on fiscal policy, specifically relating to the regulation of taxes, rates, and contributions in the international, national and property framework and its impact on businesses’ economic and financial planning. This requires professionals who can analyze the tax situation and propose tax structures from a legal framework aimed at streamlining taxes, from their origin to their collection by the State. It also calls for professionals with the ability to ensure tax security to organizations through planning based on regulatory analysis, staying ahead of future changes and scenarios by proposing tax efficiency alternatives.
This concentration delves into the international, constitutional, and legal regulation of social security and labor relations in the public and private sectors; into the procedural aspects of labor and social security law; and into the regulation of the Comprehensive Social Security System. In short, it addresses essential topics related to the regulation of labor and social security, of great interest to lawyers, advisors, department or human resources managers, judges and judicial officials who wish to deepen their knowledge in these areas.
