The present paper shows —clearly— that implicit probabilistic and stochastic processes in reference layer one of the Global System for Mobile Communications standard, can be modeled like a discrete time Markovian Chain. The Markovian theory is used to find the steady-state behavior of a six states model (Idle and Dedicated Mode) using a high level language (MatLab) that implements the algorithm formulated in the development. The results of the simulation of the Markovian model express the probabilistic behavior of the cell selection sub process on the physical layer of a GSM900 Mobile Station.
